Metropolitan Community Church Brisbane Receives Recognition

During 43rd Anniversary of Denomination’s Founding

Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) Brisbane — A local congregation has received recognition by the international leader of the church’s denomination.

The Rev. Dr. Nancy L. Wilson, moderator of the denomination of Metropolitan Community Churches, has named MCC Brisbane a “2011 MCC Pacesetter Church” for its leadership and commitment to strengthening the future of the movement’s international ministry. The Rev. Dr. Leigh Neighbour is senior pastor of the local congregation.

The recognition comes as the church prepares to observe the 43rd anniversary of the founding of the denomination of Metropolitan Community Churches during October. The denomination, which began in 1968 in the Los Angeles living room of Rev. Troy Perry, has grown into an international Christian denomination with churches and ministries in more than 40 countries.

In making the announcement, Rev. Dr. Wilson said, “I am honoured to recognize the congregation of MCC Brisbane as a “2011 Pacesetter Church” within our denomination. Under the able leadership of Rev. Dr. Leigh Neighbour this congregation offers hope-filled ministry locally and is also “setting the pace” in support of Metropolitan Community Churches’ growing and emerging international ministries.”

As part of MCC’s anniversary observances in October, the local congregation will collect a special offering designated for the work of the denomination’s International Task Force, Rev.Dr. Leigh Neighbour noted.

MCC Brisbane which offers positive, affirming ministry to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of faith, meets at 52 Merthyr Rd, New Farm, each Sunday at 7pm
